Construction material
The strength and rigidity of the Miscanthus fibre, along with its porous core, make Miscanthus suitable for various building and construction materials. For example, the chips can be used extensively in lightweight fibreboards. The low moisture percentage at harvest and low specific weight make Miscanthus an excellent raw material.
There are also initiatives to further develop lightweight fibre concrete containing Miscanthus and introduce it in the construction industry. The Miscanthus fibres make the concrete lighter, more durable and give it a certain toughness. Because of its limited inputs in cultivation, Miscanthus is an excellent CO2 sequester. Combined with a sustainable end application in the construction industry, CO2 can be sequestered for a long time! This therefore offers opportunities with regard to carbon credits.
